Thales and BAE Systems have moved into a new phase of cooperation to strengthen the UK’s next-generation submarine sonar capabilities.
Building on over 20 years of collaboration, the partnership will enhance sonar systems for the Royal Navy’s submarine fleet through a delivery model designed to accelerate deployment of advanced technologies. Thales already provides sonar solutions for the Type 23 and Type 26 frigates, while also pursuing wider defense initiatives in the UK.
Earlier this month, Thales and Autonomous Devices revealed a joint effort to develop EW-UAS1, a drone-based electronic warfare system that integrates Thales’ EW payload with a long-endurance, agile drone platform.
In May, Thales UK partnered with L3Harris to design an integrated short-range air defense command-and-control system.
In March, the Royal Navy accepted delivery of the first of four autonomous minehunting systems from Thales—a 12-meter unmanned surface vessel equipped with AI-based automatic target recognition, operable both remotely and autonomously.
