Taiwan’s military has successfully carried out the first live-fire test of its domestically developed Land Sword II surface-to-air missile system, marking a notable advancement in its air defense capabilities.
During the exercise, units from the 43rd and 58th Artillery Command launched three Land Sword II missiles within a 30-minute window at a base in Pingtung County, effectively neutralizing drone targets.
Colonel He Hsiang-i, deputy commander of the 43rd Artillery Command, stated that the test was intended to assess combat readiness and validate training procedures in light of escalating regional tensions.
The move comes amid Taiwan’s continued efforts to bolster its defenses against a potential threat from China, which views the island as a renegade province and has not ruled out military action.
