The Indian Air Force (IAF) has officially issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the procurement of 97 additional Tejas Mark-IA fighter jets. This development comes after initial clearance from the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) and marks a major step in expanding the IAF’s fleet of indigenous light combat aircraft. The new Tejas Mark-IA units will include over 65% locally sourced components, aligning with India’s push for defense self-reliance. The Mark-IA variant features significant upgrades over the original Tejas Mk-1, offering enhanced performance and capabilities.
