On December 11, 2024, the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Defence signed a contract in Riyadh with Spanish shipbuilder Navantia for the acquisition of three additional Avante 2200 corvettes, matching the five already operated by the Royal Saudi Naval Forces. Construction of the first vessel will commence shortly, with the final delivery expected by 2028. While the first corvette will be built in Spain, the second and third will be constructed in Saudi Arabia, where SAMINavantia—the joint venture between Saudi Arabian Military Industries and Navantia—will handle integration and testing of the Hazem combat system.
