India’s defense minister has approved a program to develop a prototype of an advanced fighter jet, marking a significant step toward strengthening domestic arms production. The decision comes just weeks after a skirmish with rival Pakistan. With defense modernization a key focus amid ongoing tensions with nuclear-armed neighbors Pakistan and China, the Ministry of Defense confirmed the greenlight for the fifth-generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) prototype. The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), under the defense ministry, will lead the program in collaboration with industry partners.
