South Korea’s HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has entered into a partnership with Peru’s state-owned shipbuilder SIMA to co-develop a 1,500-ton submarine for the Peruvian Navy. The initiative is part of Peru’s wider naval modernization plan and will see the aging submarine fleet replaced with a medium-sized vessel based on HD Hyundai’s HDS-1500 design.
