A newly constructed maritime survey ship by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has been launched in Shimonoseki for Japan’s naval forces.
The vessel, named JS Akashi (AGS-5107), will support seafloor data collection, ocean temperature measurement, and exploration of marine resources for strategic and scientific missions.
Its name honors the city of Akashi, a WWII-era hub for military manufacturing, especially in aviation.
