The US Department of Defense has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat a $1.8 billion contract to continue securing long lead-time materials for the US Navy’s Virginia-class Block VI submarines.
This latest contract builds on previous agreements, including a $2.2 billion award in 2023, a $1.3 billion contract in August 2024, and a $1.06 billion deal in April, all aimed at supporting early component procurement and advanced construction activities for the new submarine fleet.
Earlier in June, General Dynamics also signed a separate agreement for lead yard services, component development, and supplier network expansion tied to the Virginia-class program.
Work under the new contract will be carried out in California and various other sites across the US, with completion expected by September 2035. General Dynamics will coordinate its efforts with the US Navy’s Naval Sea Systems Command.
