Hanwha Systems has been awarded a 54.7-billion-won ($39.7 million) contract to develop a next-generation radar system for South Korea’s future long-range air defense platform.
The agreement involves the creation of a prototype multi-function radar (MFR) to support the Long-range Surface-to-Air Missile II (L-SAM II) initiative by enhancing real-time threat detection capabilities.
Although technical details remain limited, the radar is expected to track multiple aerial threats simultaneously and utilize advanced algorithms for precise upper-tier interception. It will reportedly offer greater range than the current L-SAM radar.
