Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has secured a contract to construct two additional Pattugliatore Polivalente d’Altura (PPA) multipurpose combat vessels for the Italian Navy.

These ships will now serve the Italian fleet, replacing units that were initially designated for delivery to the Indonesian Navy.

The agreement, overseen by the Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation, designates Fincantieri as the prime contractor, with Leonardo supporting the program.

Both vessels will be delivered in the “light plus” configuration, with handovers scheduled for 2029 and 2030. Construction will take place at Fincantieri’s shipyards in Riva Trigoso and Muggiano.

The overall project is valued at approximately 700 million euros ($810 million), accounting for prior work completed on the ships originally intended for Indonesia.
