The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and Serco have finalized the construction of the first prototype under the No Manning Required Ship (NOMARS) program. This initiative aims to develop a fleet of medium-sized unmanned surface vessels for the US Navy, focused solely on payload transport without onboard mission systems or crew. The inaugural prototype, named “USX Defiant,” is now set to begin rigorous dockside and at-sea testing.
