The US Air Force has publicly released the first rendering of the AGM-181 Long-Range Standoff missile, a nuclear cruise missile intended to equip the future B-21 Raider and the B-52 bombers.
Developed by Raytheon under a $2-billion contract issued in 2021, the LRSO is being designed as a replacement for the decades-old AGM-86B cruise missile. Program details remain mostly classified.
Total development costs were estimated at over $16 billion in 2022, with another $7 billion required for support and maintenance. Each missile is projected to cost approximately $14 million.
