The UK performed the maiden flight test of the SPEAR-3 air-to-ground guided cruise missile last month. Launched by a BAE Systems-operated Eurofighter Typhoon at Sweden’s Vidsel range, the MBDA UK missile’s trial was a crucial development milestone. The test demonstrated the missile’s release, target gathering, and long-range free-flight control following a high-altitude, high-speed launch. This guided firing is a significant step forward for the SPEAR programme and kicks off a campaign of firings aimed at proving the missile’s performance.
