Lockheed Martin announced the delivery of the first set of four SPY-7(V)1 radar antennas to Japan’s Ministry of Defense. These radars will be installed on Japan’s upcoming Aegis System Equipped Vessels (ASEVs), which are scheduled to enter service in fiscal years 2027 and 2028, with a primary focus on ballistic missile defense.

Beyond Japan, Lockheed has also secured agreements with Canada and Spain to integrate the SPY-7 radar on select naval platforms. Canada will equip its future River-class destroyers—intended to replace the Iroquois-class and Halifax-class ships—while Spain plans to install the radar on its F-110-class frigates. Japan’s increasing defense investments, including a record $55.1 billion budget approved in December, reflect concerns over regional tensions, particularly with China.
