The US Army is allocating $107.8 million to develop and deploy advanced protection systems for its tracked vehicles, aiming to enhance fleet survivability with next-generation technologies. The initiative is part of the Weapons and Tracked Combat Vehicles section in the US Department of Defense’s fiscal 2026 budget proposal. The project includes three key upgrades: modular laser-based active protection systems, signature management solutions, and top-attack protection kits. These enhancements will improve early threat detection, reduce thermal visibility, and add passive armor to strengthen vehicle compartments and hatches against overhead attacks. Reports indicate no prior funding for these systems in 2024 or 2025, highlighting the Army’s focus on countering emerging battlefield threats.
