The U.S. State Department has cleared a possible Foreign Military Sale to Australia, providing sustainment support and related equipment for the F/A-18F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler fleets, valued at up to $2.0 billion. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency has submitted the required congressional notification.
The Australian Government’s request covers sixty (60) Joint Tactical Terminal – Global Lightning Transceivers (JTT-X), forty (40) Advanced Electronic Warfare systems, and twenty-four (24) Next Generation Electronic Attack Units (NGEAU), in addition to numerous non-MDE items such as spares, software, training, and logistics support. Key elements include system configuration upgrades, avionics software support, secure communications equipment, mission planning systems, and flight testing services.
This sale will directly support U.S. national security interests by strengthening Australia’s defense capability—a critical factor in maintaining peace and stability in the Western Pacific. It will ensure Australia’s ability to sustain its combat aircraft fleets, remain ready to meet emerging threats, and continue contributing to joint regional security operations.
The Boeing Company will act as the primary contractor. The transaction does not currently include offset agreements. About twenty-five U.S. Government and fifteen U.S. contractor representatives will provide temporary on-site support in Australia to assist with technical oversight and program management. U.S. defense readiness will not be impacted by this proposed sale.
Final contract values may be lower depending on Australia’s finalized requirements and available budget.
