Switzerland and the United States are in dispute over the final cost of 36 Lockheed Martin F-35A fighter jets, which Switzerland purchased to modernize its aging air fleet, the Swiss government announced on Wednesday.
The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) is seeking additional payments, citing high inflation and increased raw material and energy costs in the US following the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Switzerland insists on adhering to the originally agreed price of just over six billion Swiss francs ($7.5 billion).
The Swiss Federal Council remains firm that the fixed price is contractually binding, noting that the agreed amount had been publicly confirmed by the US embassy in Bern.
