The Swedish Armed Forces have contracted Finnish small arms developer Sako to supply an additional 22,500 Automatkarbin 24 (AK 24) assault rifles. This acquisition supports a collaborative modernization initiative launched in March 2021 between Sweden and Finland to update their military firearms in response to evolving defense needs. The initial procurement of these rifles was announced jointly by both countries in March 2023.
