A new contract worth 150 million złoty has been signed by the Polish government with Mesko for the delivery of thousands of advanced 120mm tank rounds. Each APFSDS-T round weighs 7.3 kilograms and is powered by an 8.4-kilogram propellant charge. Designed for high armor penetration, the rounds feature the GUW-7-120 electric primer and boast a muzzle velocity nearing 1,670 meters per second. They are intended for deployment from the Leopard 2’s Rh-120/L44 tank gun. Interestingly, defense officials have noted potential interoperability with the M1 Abrams’ M256 gun, enhancing the flexibility of Poland’s armored fleet.
