In a bid to enhance the mental performance of its troops, the Pentagon has introduced the Cognitive Monitoring Program, a high-tech framework designed to track cognitive health and suggest timely interventions. This program helps to understand how warfighters absorb, retain, and act on information over time.

The evaluation tool reviews ten mental domains, such as attention span, judgment, and memory, while also considering emotional and physiological aspects like sleep quality and signs of PTSD. Early assessments establish a cognitive benchmark for each individual, with future check-ins planned at five-year intervals or on an as-needed basis. This effort supports early detection of cognitive issues, enabling targeted clinical strategies to protect the mental well-being of US service members.
