India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has completed development of the K-5 submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM), a nuclear-capable system with a range between 5,000 and 6,000 kilometers. This milestone was revealed at the foundation stone ceremony of the Kerala Spacepark (KSPACE) in Thiruvananthapuram, where a former BrahMos Aerospace scientist also confirmed the induction of the 3,500-km range K-4 SLBM into Arihant-class submarines. DRDO is currently advancing work on the K-6 SLBM, targeting a range of up to 8,000 kilometers and speeds of Mach 7.5. These announcements were made during a panel on indigenous defense innovation, attended by scientists, officials, and industry leaders. KSPACE aims to foster collaboration in aerospace and defense R&D.
