During a high-profile visit by the Indian Prime Minister to Nigeria, both nations advanced their strategic partnership by signing multiple agreements focused on defense, economic development, and food security on November 12. A major highlight of the visit was India’s proposal to supply the LCA-Tejas Mk1A fighter jet to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), aimed at boosting Nigeria’s aerial defense capabilities. To facilitate this, India has extended a $200 million Line of Credit to Nigeria for the acquisition of the Tejas Mk1A from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). This offer aligns with Nigeria’s plan to replace its outdated Chengdu F-7NI fighter jets, positioning the Tejas as a modern, cost-effective solution and reinforcing India’s commitment to defense cooperation.
