Germany has announced plans to procure Boxer armored fighting vehicles to strengthen the core capabilities of its newly formed Medium Forces.

The acquisition will include the 30-millimeter Remote Control Turret (RCT30) variant, first introduced by Rheinmetall and KNDS Deutschland in 2016.

According to local news outlet Hartpunkt, Berlin’s draft budget allocates 3.9 billion euros ($4.5 billion) for the future purchase, with 1.1 billion euros ($1.2 billion) earmarked for the program’s initial phase.

While the exact number of vehicles has not been officially disclosed, reports suggest the procurement could involve up to 148 Boxers.

These RCT30-equipped vehicles will complement the 123 Boxer platforms currently being acquired in Australia’s Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle (CRV) configuration for Germany’s Heavy Weapon Carrier Infantry units.
