The European Defence Agency (EDA) has completed the initial phase of its ASCALS program, aimed at creating smart camouflage for military vehicles and gear. The €1.3-million ($1.42-million) effort focused on adaptive materials capable of responding to evolving environmental conditions, countering modern surveillance methods like radar, thermal, and visual detection.
