Leonardo’s C-27J multi-mission tactical transport aircraft, which has achieved more than 270,000 flight hours globally, is set to expand its operational reach. Leonardo will supply two C-27Js to Aramco for missions ranging from cargo transport and medical evacuation to firefighting and oil spill response in Saudi Arabia. Operated by Mukamalah Aviation Company, trading as “Aloula Aviation,” the aircraft will be supported locally through an in-house service center, with deliveries starting in 2027.
This contract introduces Aloula Aviation as the 20th global operator of the C-27J, increasing the program’s total orders to 95 units. It also marks the first time a civilian operator has selected the aircraft in a combined multi-mission and firefighting configuration. Leonardo’s commitment to upgrading the C-27J with state-of-the-art avionics and customizable mission packages continues to attract new operators across diverse regions, including the Middle East.
The agreement further strengthens the successful partnership between Leonardo and Aramco, which began with helicopters supporting energy and emergency operations in the Kingdom and now extends into fixed-wing capabilities.
The C-27J Next Generation Fire Fighter is equipped with the innovative MAFFS II system—a modular, roll-on/roll-off firefighting solution that can be installed in just 90 minutes. The 7,500-liter tank can be rapidly refilled, while the system’s precision spray nozzle enhances fire suppression efficiency.
Designed for agile, low-altitude operations in challenging environments, the C-27J can reach remote areas quickly and operate where other aerial firefighting assets cannot. With high-speed and STOL performance, it is especially suited for missions in rugged or isolated terrain. The C-27J also supports fire prevention and disaster response, offering an adaptable and sustainable solution for emergency management.
