German defense companies Diehl Defence and POLARIS are collaborating to develop a next-generation missile launch platform that operates without a pilot.
The system, called the Airborne Launching and Attack System (AirLAS), combines Diehl’s combat-tested IRIS-T air-to-air missile with POLARIS’s reusable unmanned carrier drone.
The project aims to provide armed forces with an affordable, air-launched precision strike capability that eliminates the need for manned aircraft.
