Aerostar, a Lockheed Martin-certified maintenance, overhaul, and repair (MRO) center, has successfully completed its first Phase Maintenance Inspection (PMI) of a Black Hawk® helicopter for Romania’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI). Completed ahead of schedule, this achievement underscores Aerostar’s expertise, attention to quality, and ongoing support for Romania’s helicopter operations.
Before Aerostar was authorized as a Black Hawk support center, operators had to conduct inspections at their own locations. With Aerostar now providing these services, operators can shift their focus to regular maintenance and operational tasks, increasing aircraft availability.
This initial inspection marks a key step for Aerostar, which has since begun work on a second Black Hawk. The MAI’s fleet plays a crucial role in maritime and land search and rescue, firefighting, medical emergencies, and transport missions.
Designed to military-grade standards, the Sikorsky S-70M Black Hawk is a versatile, multi-mission platform well-suited to the MAI’s operational demands. Sikorsky, part of Lockheed Martin, will deliver an additional helicopter in 2024, expanding Romania’s fleet to eight. Manufactured at the PZL Mielec facility in Poland, these aircraft contribute significantly to both civil and defense operations throughout Europe.
