General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) is teaming up with Saab to bring Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) capability to its MQ-9B family of Remotely Piloted Aircraft. The effort will cover the SkyGuardian®, SeaGuardian®, the UK’s Protector, and the new MQ-9B STOL variant now in development. GA-ASI plans to conduct the first AEW flights using the MQ-9B in 2026.
By combining Saab’s cutting-edge AEW sensors with the MQ-9B’s unmatched endurance and range, the partnership will offer a cost-effective AEW&C solution capable of providing persistent air surveillance and situational awareness over both maritime and land domains.
