President Erdogan has announced a major defense export agreement with Indonesia for the delivery of 48 Turkish-made fighter jets.
The deal, worth $10 billion, includes the production and handover of Kaan jets—Turkey’s fifth-generation aircraft developed by TAI—over the next decade. The Kaan had its first test flight in early 2024 and currently uses engines similar to the F-16, with plans to switch to Turkish-made powerplants in the future.
In 2024, the defense sector generated $7.1 billion in exports for Turkey, led by platforms such as the Bayraktar drone.
