Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) announced that it has signed a $700 million contract with the Philippine Department of National Defense to supply 12 FA-50 fighter jets. The delivery is scheduled to be completed by 2030, bolstering the country’s aerial defense.
The FA-50s in this deal feature upgraded avionics, including aerial refueling systems, AESA radar, and enhanced combat capability with sophisticated weapons for diverse mission profiles. The Philippines, while yet to officially confirm the agreement, previously procured a dozen FA-50s in 2014.
This expansion follows the recent loss of one aircraft from the earlier fleet, which disappeared on March 4 during an operation in southern Mindanao, where it was providing support to troops engaged in anti-insurgency efforts.
