The Spanish Navy has taken delivery of its first two NH90 MSPT helicopters from Airbus Helicopters. These aircraft represent the first part of a seven-unit deal under the second phase of Spain’s national NH90 program, a broader effort to modernize and unify the country’s rotary-wing capabilities across its military services.
Tailored for maritime operations, the MSPT model is equipped with advanced features including foldable tail and rotor blades, upgraded navigation and communication systems for naval use, and heavy-duty landing gear. The aircraft is capable of deploying 20 combat-ready troops or a light vehicle while maintaining optimal flight control in low-visibility situations. With this delivery, Spain becomes one of the few countries to field NH90s in all three of its armed forces. The acquisition supports Spain’s defense modernization goals outlined in the National Helicopter Plan and underscores continued partnership with Airbus.
