The Turkish Navy has added another asset to its growing underwater fleet with the launch of the third Reis-class submarine, the TCG Murat Reis. Built at the Gölcük Naval Shipyard, this event follows the commissioning of the class leader and recent sea trials for the second unit. Coinciding with two major national anniversaries, the launch also reflects Turkey’s increasing self-reliance in naval defense. The Reis-class is derived from Germany’s Type 214 design, with a total of six submarines planned. Turkey aims to deliver one submarine annually until the project concludes in 2028.
