Indra is deploying an AI-based system in its simulators that slashes the time required to develop tactical training scenarios from days to mere minutes, saving substantial resources and effort.
Unveiled at the Paris Air Show, one of the premier aerospace events in Europe, this capability is being implemented in new simulators and will be progressively rolled out to existing platforms.
For years, simulators have been fundamental in preparing troops by creating realistic battlefield scenarios that mirror terrain and the behavior of both allied and enemy forces.
Generating these scenarios quickly is crucial to optimize mission preparation time, but the detailed nature of the task has traditionally required experienced staff working for weeks or months.
Using sophisticated AI models such as Large Language Models (LLM), Indra’s new tool accelerates scenario generation and enhances scenario authenticity, revolutionizing how military training and mission prep are conducted.
Instructors provide input—either by voice or text—describing the desired mission, for example, a complex air and ground operation in a defined region. The system automatically produces a comprehensive synthetic environment, complete with various platforms, their locations, routes, speeds, and friend-or-foe identifications.
Within minutes, training can begin, and the instructor can modify details on the fly—such as rerouting a fighter jet or altering a tank formation. The AI learns from these adjustments and refines future scenario development accordingly.
This innovation complements Indra’s ongoing AI capabilities to simulate aircraft and other platform behaviors during exercises.
Indra is actively shaping future simulation models including Live Virtual Constructive (LVC) and Modeling and Simulation as a Service (MSaaS), set to transform military training.
Additionally, Indra has introduced IndraMind, an intelligence system to automate key operations and ensure dominance across multi-domain environments.
